The Importance of Self-Care and Tips to Feel Better

Self-Care is not the same as pampering, it’s self-preservation and with everything that is going on in our world today it’s crucial for your health to incorporate self-care into your day and at the least your week. There is lots of talk lately of a “self-care routine,” but what does that mean and look like? It’s going to look different for EVERYBODY. Some of these ideas may seem obvious but are you incorporating them into life right now? Other ideas on this list might spark something creative for you that you haven’t thought about. Take a few things from this list that feel like a fit to you!

  • Take an hour or an afternoon to read just for fun
  • Sit outside….Just sit
  • Buy yourself flowers
  • Take a nap
  • Order in dinner and then have a picnic outside
  • Give yourself permission to binge watch a show without guilt
  • Sit and drink your cup of coffee or tea in the morning and do nothing else but that
  • Meditate
  • Take 20 minutes just to stretch
  • Take a bath or a long hot shower
  • Go for a drive, no destination required
  • Declutter a spot in your house that’s been bugging you
  • Write a list of “annoying tasks” that have been weighing on you and knock them out in an hour (or some sort of time frame that you just get it done)
  • Clean your house/space, give yourself a timer to get it done and play your favorite music as loud as possible
  • Watch the sun rise or sun set. Don’t take any pictures or post about it on social media. Just watch
  • Edit who you follow on social media (if they don’t bring joy, they got to go)
  • Write a list of 10 things you are grateful for and why
  • Write a letter or email an old friend
  • Go for a walk with a friend
  • Making sleep a priority – maybe taking Melatonin at night and or going to bed and waking up at the same time every day
  • Drinking lots of water – don’t underestimate this one!
