7 Healthy Holiday Tips

This Holiday season it is even more important to make healthy choices! Although this Holiday season make look different than past years, there will still be temptations and it is important to take care of yourself!

 

Here are some tips as we roll into the biggest holidays of the year.

 

1. Don’t forget to savor the moments

    1. This time of year, is all about spending quality time with families and friends. No matter what family you are with our current world can make it hard to truly be present. This year try to disconnect from your screens and reconnect with people that really matter in your life.
    2. This means stop looking forward to the next thing, slow down and enjoy right NOW!

 

2. ALWAYS stay Hydrated

      1. This is something that is important all year long but don’t let it slip over the holidays. We are surround with festive cocktails and coffees. Set yourself up for success each day by making it a habit to drink a glass of water when you wake up every morning. It is still okay to enjoy the festive cocktails but add a cup of water in between drinks. Lastly, don’t forget to drink water before you go to bed after a couple drinks!
      2. If cold water on a winter morning freezes you to the core, then warm it up or add a lemon slice or try herbal teas.

 

3. Give yourself breaks

      1. Don’t forget to schedule at least 10 minutes for yourself every day. This will help reduce any festive frictions or stress build up.
      2. This is a great time to practice your breathing work. Try out box breathing – breath in 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, breath our for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, repeat up to 10 times.

4. 80/20 rule for eating

      1. We all know this time of year can revolve around food and drinks. To live a healthy and balanced life you don’t always have to make 100% healthy food choices, 80% is enough! This allows you to indulge without the guilt!
      2. Try your best to eat real foods 80% of the time. Try to avoid processed foods and even try looking up healthier recipes for a traditional recipe.

5. MOVE your Body!

      1. Exercise is a great stress reducer during this time of year. It is also a good balance to workout with the little indulges you may have with treats. It doesn’t need to be a long workout 15-30 minutes is enough! Set yourself up for success by scheduling it on your calendar, put your workout clothes on when you wake up, so you are more motivated to get it done!

6. Get outside

      1. Find parks, green spaces, bundle up and go for a walk! You can even move your workout outside too! Soak up the beauty of nature this time of year and notice how much calmer you feel.

7. Practice daily gratitude

    1. Leave a notepad by your bed, write three things every day that you are grateful for – it can be as simple as, I am grateful that I got to walk my dogs today. The more we focus on the good the happier we are throughout our days and more stress free. Focus on the good.
